HISTORY
I am a frequent visitor at the thegreenbutton.com. I recently noticed an older post from a user named Scuffs. In this post he suggested a project for softsled like the one started at onmac.net. I couldn't believe that no one hadn't done this.
As a media center user who really needs a softsled-like application, I would love to see softsled come to fruition. I would even pay for it (within reason) if Microsoft released it. But let's be for real. I am a business owner, and when I try to look at it from Microsoft's business standpoint it just doesn't make sense. It would hurt their XBOX sales (Media Center is all I use mine for), and I don't imagine any of their partners (HP & Linksys) that are going to produce extenders would like it either.
IDEA
So, what I am proposing to do is:
I want the project to be as open as possible to allow the sharing of ideas. I would rather see two teams of ten people each, working on a project from 2 different angles, than to see 20 people working by themselves from 20 different angles.
SOFTSLED PROJECT
In order to start a team you need to register at the site and contact TDave (me) via private message. I will change your user permissions and set you up a page where you can keep the community informed.
I know that many people would like to have more features than a current extender does, but I think we first need to accomplish the task of creating software that will mimic the XBox 360 extender. From that point we can work on supporting more codecs, native dvd support, etc. .
In order to claim the prize you need to submit your finished project to me (TDave).
